My intent with site-specific work is to locate the “poetry” of the site and then I hope to turn up the visual volume so others can experience the site in a new way.
In the outdoor work I respond to the givens, especially the invisible elements: the north-south, east-west axis, the arc of the sun, the light conditions, the wind patterns, human/animal traffic patterns and of course, the topography and natural/man-made conditions.
In addition, I do extensive research into the history of the area and of the former inhabitants of the land. The final choice of materials is dependent on what the site demands.
