An installation completed at Skammdegi, an artist residency, in Olafsfjordor, North Iceland in December and January 2016- 17.
The two sculptural pieces, “Rupture” and “Dis-coordinate” form a call and response installation titled “Earth Out of Balance” to shape a narrative about the political and environmental shifts and ruptures of our time.
“Rupture” is formed from kelp found on the beaches of the Arctic Ocean in the far north of Iceland. It uses the sphere (circle) to represent the world-wide environmental degradation of the planet. “Dis-coordinate” uses the orderly mapping of latitude and longitude (drawn on the wall) with a distorted grid structure superimposed over the top and represents the shifting relationships of chaos and order.
